Into the blue! Classic indigo, supersoft denim and wide crops top the spring trend list
We’ve never been so happy about the blues. Think blue skies at dusk, pure indigo dye, and classic blue jeans.
Not only is classic blue THE colour of the year, according to the Pantone Colour Institute, but the influential forecasting agency also puts faded denim on its spring/summer trend list.
Blue is the most calming of colours, cool, serene, and always a favourite for both guys and gals. It is comforting and comfortable, a versatile classic. At Yoga Jeans, the new blue palette ranges from summery baby blue to cobalt and true indigo, according to brand director Nico Adonopulos.
EMBRACING COLOUR, SOFTLY
Beyond the blues, light pink, lemon yellow, beige and military green are the new hues for spring. The mood embraces colour but in a softly muted way. And white is always right for spring and summer.
THE NEW BLEND
The biggest news this season at Yoga Jeans is a soft new denim fabrication – a blend of organic/recycled cotton and recycled polyester. “What’s really special about it is that it’s super, super soft and lightweight,” Adonopulos says. These jeans are like a second skin, sure to become your go-to favourites.
THE CROP CRAZE
Also, the cropped jean is trending stronger and stronger, whether in straight, skinny or wide silhouettes. Those crops can be cut to pedal-pusher heights or cuffed to mid-calf.
“It’s fresher,’’ Adonopulos says of the crop.
Every silhouette from cigarette to straight and wide comes in cropped variations. Still, the shape of spring is definitely the wide crop, in shades from indigo to khaki green and, for the special details we love, in wide or skinny stripes. The Lily style in Navy Pier or Yacht Club stripes beckons for a picnic or day by the seaside. Nautical is always nice.
In darker indigo, wear the Lily to the office or for a night on the town. The wide crop works equally well with your favourite sneaks or a chunky heeled sandal.
DETAILS, DETAILS
More fresh details at YJ include button flies, rolled cuffs, acid washes, side taping and raw-edge hems. For an easy variation on the paper bag pant, try the relaxed Malia in khaki with a tie belt. Subtle distressed grindings are preferred this season to major rips and tears.
And don’t forget your jean jacket as you move into spring. Cropped, lasered and distressed, it comes in a light vintage denim wash.
“Crops and light denim are a nice way to transition easily into spring,’’ Adonopolus says.
